The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), established in 1863, is an independent, impartial and neutral humanitarian organization which employs around 12,000 people in 80 countries. The ICRC’s exclusive mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to promote international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.

 

The Protection Department in the ICRCs Cox’s Bazar Office is currently looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and motivated person for the following position:

Position : Protection Field Officer
Department : Protection
Location : Cox’s Bazar
Starting date : As soon as possible
The Protection Field Officer will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Protection Field Delegate

Main Responsibilities

Contribute to the understanding and analysis of the security, socio-economic, cultural and political environment relevant to the ICRC and share any relevant information and changes in the situation with relevant colleagues;
Regularly prepare and participate in all aspects of field trips, including reporting;
Produce regular, analytical reports based on field trips and meetings;
Assure relevant translation for the Protection Field Delegate or other colleagues during field trips and ensure relevant translation of documents, media articles etc. as necessary;
Under supervision of the Protection Field Delegate or the Head of Office, disseminate the mandate and activities of the ICRC to a variety of interlocutors and beneficiaries on the local level;
Focus on the understanding and analysis of the situation as well as the needs and Protection concerns of community members and displaced persons, in the area of operations;
Develop and maintain a network of interlocutors (community leaders, authorities, BDRCS, other humanitarian organisations);
Contribute to the documentation of Protection of the Civilian Population cases and assist in interviews with alleged victims and/or witnesses;
Assist in Family Tracing activities (Red Cross Messages; Tracing Requests);
Accompany and assist other departments during field trips;
Contribute to internal and external meetings (preparation, participation, reporting and follow up);
Foster a conducive environment with fellow team members.
Personal Attributes and Skills Required

Excellent communication and inter-personal skills: ability to deal and interact with people respectfully (colleagues, authorities, members of the community) and to show empathy towards others (beneficiaries);
Ability to work independently, with the capacity to take initiative as and when appropriate and to prioritise various tasks;
Strong analytical skills;
Ability to work under pressure and to be flexible and open to working extra hours if necessary;
Adaptability and capacity to integrate changes and to deal with an important volume of work;
Ability to exercise discretion and the handling of confidential matters effectively;
Capacity to strictly apply ICRC rules and procedures;
Punctual and reliable with confirmed organizational skills.
Educational requirements:
University degree in a related field or relevant professional experience.
Professional requirements:
3 years of previous experience for instance as social political economic science or similar fields
Fluent knowledge of written and spoken English
Fluent command of spoken Bangla and Chittagong
Computer proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
